About the artist

Suzanne Henderson photo

I studied painting at Birmingham School of Art (B.A Hons Fine Art), the Royal College of Art (M.A Fine Art) and the Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris.

I work mainly in pastels, charcoal, watercolour and acrylics. I paint subjects that have a personal resonance for me and these tend to  focus on forestland, buildings within landscape, figure studies and long distance views. Some of my work is influenced by my dreams and particular experiences.

I have worked with a variety of people in different settings such as long-stay hospitals, group homes and residential units using art as a vehicle of expression for people with limited verbal and / or physical skills. My own artwork has been heavily influenced by the experiences of working in institutional environments.

Mixed exhibitions include the Mall Galleries (Runner-up John Brandler Gallery Prize 1994), the Beecroft Art Gallery Essex, the ANA Gallery London, The Art Show London 1994 (Judges Choice Mixed Media Section), the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours, The Pastel Society, The New English Art Club, Stoke Newington Art Gallery London, the Royal Cambrian Academy North Wales and the Poetry Café Covent Garden (a two woman show with the cartoonist and illustrator Caroline Holden Hotopf in September 2008).

I currently divide my time between London and North Wales.
